Chemix 1.0

Chemix 2.0 available.
Chemix 2.0 is much better than version 1.0 and we recommend you use it instead! Let me have it!

Chemix is a freeware editor for drawing lab diagrams. This small tool written in Flash is designed for students to help them draw diagrams of common laboratory equipment and design lab setup of science (especially chemistry and physics) experiments. It is not a professional's tool, but being easy and fast to use, it is suited for quick presentations and for use by students and pupils.

Hi.

I write a column reviewing sites of interest to chemistry teachers, in 'Education in Chemistry' and somebody sent me a link to Chemix with the suggestion that it was worth reviewing. I agree but it would be useful to know if there are any plans for future development e.g any more apparatus to be added (gas syringe and side-arm conical flask would be useful for example) On a qiuck trial I also had trouble orientating some apparatus e.g when creating a gas colection kit I couldn't get the trough and the reaction flask at the same height. Finally - I can print the whole page but is it possible to copy an image of apparatus into Word? Many thanks. Tony Tooth

Hi,

Chemix was created few years ago as a tool to help me and my fellow class friends to draw lab apparatus set-ups for our Physics and Chemistry IGCSE lessons. It was not at all planned to be used as a professionally designed application (thus the discrepancies in some of the scalings of the apparatus) or tool for educational purposes, but I published the application anyway hoping that it might be useful to some people.

Though, there were some plans to 'upgrade' the application to this level, currently, no further development in near future is scheduled. However, I will do some research as to what tools for drawing lab diagrams are out there and eventually decide, if I want to step into the game as well. Your suggestions and findings would be greatly appreciated.
